Michael Anastassiades has come up with an Indoor/Outdoor version of the iconic IC Lights floor lamp, enriching a sophisticated elegance with a new free spirit, for indoor or outdoor use. IC Outdoor has been adjusted in the materials, finishes and technological waterproof engineering to meet the expected requirements for outdoor lighting fixtures. Floor lamp with diffused light for exterior use comes in the two models: F1 & F2.
A new addition to the collection, Anastassiades has the poetic grace and visionary design quality that have always characterized his work. On top of the thin stem, as if in a balancing act, a blown glass sphere. Combined with the exploration of light, the bold experimentation in shape and LED technology results in a poetic functionality at its best.
IC Lights Outdoors body and head structure are available in five fresh finishes, combined with precious Italian stones for the base. The lava stone black, grey and occhio di pernice, is extracted in Sicily, from the quarries on the slopes of the Etna volcano. The travertino imperiale stone, from Tuscany, is composed of vegetal fragments and carbonate, and it is characterized by small cavities enhancing the materic aesthetic of the stone. The variety of surfaces and colours depends on the underground source and treatment. Its stone base provides a solid foundation and gives the design a natural, refined taste, in harmony with the colors and materiality of the outdoor spaces.
Inspiration behind the design: remember watching a short film about a juggler, Tony Duncan, rolling a set of spheres in the palm of his hands and up on his arms. There were moments when the spheres would seem perfectly still, on the edge of his fingers. Only if you looked very closely could you see them spinning around to achieve the balance. Then I came across the old photographs of Paul Cinquevalli, capturing a moment in the art of contact juggling. - Michael Anastassiades
